Ideas for coloring

Bumper cars are known for being bright and exciting, so this is a good time to use your most vibrant colors. Try using neon pink, electric blue, and lime green to make each car look unique and full of energy. You can also add some cool patterns to the sides of the cars, like lightning bolts, stars, or racing stripes. Don’t forget to color the large rubber bumper that goes all the way around the base of the car—usually, these are a dark grey or black. At the back of each car, there is a tall metal pole that reaches up to the ceiling. You can draw some small yellow or white sparks coming from the top of the pole to show the electricity that powers the ride. For the background, you can draw a simple floor with some colorful lights reflecting off it, or even some other fairground attractions like a Ferris wheel or a carousel in the distance. This will help create the atmosphere of a busy and fun amusement park.

Facts for kids

Bumper cars, which are also sometimes called ‘dodgems,’ are a very popular ride at amusement parks and fairs all over the world. They are small electric cars that are designed to be driven into each other for fun! Each car is surrounded by a large rubber bumper that protects the passengers and the car during a collision. Most bumper cars get their power from a large metal grid on the ceiling. A long pole at the back of the car touches the grid to bring electricity down to the motor. The driver uses a steering wheel and a pedal to move and turn, and the goal is often to try and bump into your friends’ cars while avoiding being bumped yourself. Even though they are called bumper cars, they are safe because they don’t go very fast and the rubber bumpers absorb all the impact. The first bumper cars were invented more than a hundred years ago, and they have been a favorite part of the fairground experience ever since. They are a way for kids and adults to have some safe and silly fun together.
