About these coloring pages

Kwanzaa is a week-long celebration of African American culture and heritage, observed from 26 December to 1 January. It was created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga and is built around seven principles, with one candle lit each day on the kinara. The pages in this hub use the objects of the holiday.

The set includes a kinara with seven candles, the unity cup, a woven straw mat set with a kinara, corn and fruit, ears of corn, a harvest basket of fruit and a djembe drum with rope lacing. The unity cup and the ears of corn are simple shapes that suit ages three to six. The kinara, the mat setting, the fruit basket and the drum have more detail and are better for ages five to ten.

The traditional Kwanzaa colors are red, black and green, which makes a good starting point for the kinara: three red candles, three green and one black in the middle. You can also use the pages to talk about the seven principles together, such as unity and creativity. Every page prints on US Letter or A4 and is free for home and classroom use. The art is made with an AI image model and checked by us before it goes on the site.
