American Flag Coloring Pages
Free printable american flag coloring pages: flags waving, flags on poles, patriotic scenes and stars and stripes.
About these coloring pages
These pages show the United States flag in several settings: waving in the wind, flying from a tall pole, behind a perched bald eagle, carried by children in a parade, held between two kids, repeated in a border of stars and stripes, and flying above a domed government building. They suit Flag Day, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Veterans Day, or a classroom lesson on symbols of the country.
The current flag has thirteen horizontal stripes, seven red and six white, for the original thirteen colonies, and fifty white stars on a blue field for the fifty states. The stripes always begin and end with red. We check each page against this pattern before we publish it, and we leave out any picture where the stripes or stars come out wrong. The star field on a waving flag is often partly hidden by folds, which is natural, but the stripe order should still read correctly.
For a simple lesson, ask children to count the stripes as they color them and to color the red ones first. Older children can look at a picture of the real flag and match its blue to the field. The flag has no required exact shade in a crayon box, so a regular red, white and blue is fine.
The pages carry no slogans or printed words. Easy pages have large areas and suit ages 3 to 6. Pages with an eagle or a building have more detail for ages 7 and up. Print on US Letter or A4. Free for home and classroom use.
