About these coloring pages

These bee coloring pages go with a topic on insects and how flowers make seeds. There are eight drawings: a honey bee on a daisy, a round bumblebee on clover, a bee flying toward sunflowers, a straw hive in a garden, a beekeeper in a veil beside two wooden hive boxes, pollen baskets on a bee's back legs, a honeycomb of six-sided cells, and a row that shows an egg, a larva, a pupa and a grown bee. Every bee has three body sections, two pairs of wings and six legs.

The pictures have no printed words, so you can name the parts while your child colors. A honey bee is longer and slimmer. A bumblebee is rounder and fuzzy. Honeycomb cells are hexagons, the six-sided shape children also meet when they sort shapes. Pollen is the powder in the middle of a flower. It sticks to the bee and is carried to the next flower, which is how many plants grow fruit and seeds. On the life-stage page the pictures go in order, and you can ask which one comes next.

A single large bee suits ages 3 to 5. Honeycomb, pollen and life stages suit ages 6 to 8. Yellow and black are the usual colors for a honey bee. Flowers can be any color. Every page prints on US Letter or A4 paper and is free for home and classroom use.
