About these coloring pages

These hockey coloring pages cover the parts of the game that are easy to recognize and fun to color: a skater with a stick, a goalie in full pads and mask, crossed sticks with a puck, a pair of skates, a helmet with a face cage, and a view of a rink from above with its face-off circles. There are also scenes with children playing pond hockey, and a penguin on skates for younger kids who prefer animals.

No page shows a team logo, a real player or a number on a jersey. The jerseys are plain, so children can invent their own team colors and stripes. That makes the pages a good fit for a hockey-themed birthday party, a classroom unit on winter sports, or a rainy afternoon when the season is on television.

A puck is a disc of vulcanized rubber, about an inch thick and three inches across, and it is often chilled before a game so it slides instead of bouncing. A goalie's mask began as a plain protective face piece in the late 1950s and has been redesigned many times since, which makes it an enjoyable shape to decorate.

Pages marked easy have thick lines and large areas, suited to ages 3 to 6. The rink scene and the goalie in pads have more small shapes and suit ages 7 and up. Every page prints on US Letter or A4 paper and is free for home and classroom use.
