About these coloring pages

These castle coloring pages show the parts that made a medieval castle work: thick stone walls, towers with flat tops, a gatehouse with a heavy gate, a moat crossed by a drawbridge and a courtyard where people lived and worked. The drawings are original and plain, with no flags carrying symbols and no writing.

Castles are a popular school topic because children can see how the pieces fit together. As your child colors, ask why the walls are so high, why there is water around the outside and where the people inside would sleep, cook and keep animals. The great hall page has a long table and torches, and the courtyard page shows a market with stalls.

Simple single-tower castles suit ages 4 to 6, and the courtyard and ruined-castle scenes give older children more to color. Use grey and brown for stone, or let your child decide the colors. Every page prints on US Letter or A4 paper and is free for home and classroom use.
