Counting the rings

Each ring in a log end is one year of growth. A wide ring means a good year with plenty of rain, and a narrow one means a dry year. Logging trucks carry timber from the forest to sawmills, where it is cut into boards. Straps and posts keep the stack from rolling off on bends, so the load stays in place on winding forest roads.
