About these coloring pages

These train coloring pages show the main kinds of railway vehicle: a steam locomotive crossing a stone viaduct, a four-carriage passenger train in the countryside, a bullet train, a subway train at a platform, a city tram, a freight train with containers and tank cars, a rack railway climbing a snowy mountain and a gondola cable car. There are also a toy wooden train set, a Christmas train and a train station with a clock.

The simple train with a locomotive and two carriages and the toy train set suit ages 2 to 7. Passenger trains, trams, the Christmas train and the bullet train have more windows and scenery for ages 4 to 10. The subway, freight and station pages are the most detailed and suit ages 6 to 11. Trains carry no names, numbers or logos, so kids can give each engine their own.

Useful facts: a steam locomotive runs by boiling water, and the steam comes out of the chimney, while a tram takes electricity from an overhead wire through an arm called a pantograph. Kids can count carriages, follow the track and match each train to the job it does. Pages print on US Letter or A4 paper and are free for home and classroom use.
